Sussex is busy celebrating the achievements of over 4,000 students this week at Summer Graduation.
In the biggest event yet, more than 3,500 graduands will receive their degrees in person and, along with their 13,000 guests, will fill the Brighton Centre over the five days.
This year Sanjeev Bhaskar marks a decade as the Chancellor of the University of Sussex – “an unbelievable gift” that has made him want to experience more of campus life and get more involved in the daily life of the students before they reach graduation.
Adam Tickell, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, said: “Each and every graduate will have gone through their own personal journey to get to where they are today and they should feel immensely proud of all they have worked for. I wish them every success for their futures as they embark on a new chapter of their story.”
Monday saw students from Global Studies; IDS; and Life Sciences receive their degrees – and a shot of Sussex graduands enjoying ice cream on the beach featured in The Times and The Daily Telegraph.
An Honorary Doctor of Science was conferred on physicist Professor Ann Wintle for her award-winning research on thermoluminescence.

On Tuesday, students from Law, Politics and Sociology; Brighton and Sussex Medical School; and Psychology received their degrees. The University also conferred as Honorary Doctor, social scientist Professor Nikolas Rose for exploring how scientific developments have changed our conception of what it is to be human.

Wednesday has seen students from Education and Social Work; English; History, Art History and Philosophy receive their degrees and social and cultural historian - Professor Catherine Hall - conferred an Honorary Doctor of the University for work on race, gender and empire.
The University is recognising both academic and extra-curricular achievements, while sharing the stories of our students in their very own words.
The physical space of the Brighton Centre has been transformed to share the voices of our students, allowing guests to travel through the venue reading our graduands’ favourite memories, individual achievements or the obstacles they may have had to overcome to get to where they are today.
The graduands have also been encouraged to submit their stories online, sharing their favourite memories from their time at Sussex.
