Students and staff can print to all charged printers from their own laptops and computers using web printing. The process works on PCs and Macs without the need to install any software. At the moment, you have to be on the campus and connected to a campus network such as eduroam (wi-fi) or ResNet to use the service.
Before you can use web printing for the first time, you must print at least one page using one of the PCs or Macs on the campus. This is because your printing account is automatically set up the first time you print from one of the campus computers.
From then on, you will be able to use web printing and add credit to your printing account.

Find the name on the label on the printer you want to use and then look it up in the list.
You can look on other pages if your printer isn't shown on the first screen, or you can search using the name of the building where you want to print - e.g. type lib and click Find printer to get the printers in the Library.
For web printing, there are usually two versions of every printer, one for single-sided (with an s at the end) and the other for double (ending with d).
Some example printers:
library_g70_bw_s
Print single-sided in black and white in the Library ground floor cluster room
shawcross_0_01_col_d
Print double-sided in colour in the ITS user area in Shawcross

You can print PDFs or most types of Microsoft Office files. You can only submit entire documents so check your file contains only the pages that you want to print.
If you're printing an Excel spreadsheet, make sure you delete any blank worksheets because otherwise they will be printed too.
Large files
There's a 100MB size limit on web printing so you will have to split your file into smaller sections if it's too big.

The file doesn't print until you decide to release it. You can do this straightaway if you're near to the printer already:
If you're not near to the printer when you send it, you can release it later. For example, if you live in one of the campus residences, you can print a document from your computer in your bedroom and then release it later when you're heading off to the printer. That way, you can reduce the chance of it being picked up by somebody else accidentally.
To release a print that you have sent earlier:
You can also click on cancel if you decide not to print a particular file.
Contact the IT Service Desk in Shawcross if you have any problem or queries associated with printing or see the printing section of our question and answer pages.
