Collection Description

The Thomas Rees Papers contain photocopies of some of the official papers of Major-General Thomas Wynford Rees (1898–1959), CB, CIE, DSO, MC, DL, late Indian Army. Rees’s military career began in the First World War and subsequently saw him serve in Waziristan, Iraq and North Africa. The papers at Sussex, however, relate to the period of August and September 1947 when Rees commanded the peacekeeping Punjab Boundary Force during the transfer of power to India and Pakistan. The collection includes material that relates to the military and political events of the time. Peter Rees allowed the University of Sussex to make copies of his father’s papers. The originals (and their copyright) were retained by Mr Rees.
