Campus buzzing at busiest autumn open days ever

Despite heavy showers, campus was buzzing with prospective students and their guests on Saturday (4 October) for the second of this year’s autumn open days.

Visitors were able to get in-depth information about what the University can offer from lectures and activities hosted by each subject area across the campus.

In addition, prospective undergraduates and their parents and guests were treated to tours of accommodation, the campus and Brighton to gain an insight into student life at Sussex.

There was lots of positive feedback from visitors, including one who said that the “very informative” open day “gave me a great idea of what the university is like” and “helped me decide what course I want to take”.

The “University of Sussex seems like a well knitted community which is bursting full of opportunities”, commented another.

And, having visited the campus, a number of prospective students said they will now be applying to Sussex. “It was absolutely amazing,” said one. “I loved it and it gave off such a great feeling and a great atmosphere. I'm so excited to put it as my top choice.”

Some took to social media to comment on their experience. “Had great day at @SussexUni," tweeted one. “Soaked but loved the campus and the course!” “Don't think I've loved anything as much as I love #sussexuni,” enthused another. “Their open day is killing it.”

And two lucky users of social media (one each in September and October) even won an iPad mini after entering a competition to take a ‘selfie’ photo and post it on Twitter or Instagram with the tag “#chooseUs”.

David Winstanley, Head of Undergraduate Recruitment, said: “Open days are the best opportunity to showcase the fantastic experience we offer here at Sussex.

“Our academic colleagues go to great lengths to demonstrate why studying their subject here is a great option, while staff from across the professional services work hard to give visitors a taste of what being a student here might be like, as well as making sure the day runs smoothly.”

The next campus-wide open day will be held in summer 2015, after the series of post-application visit days for undergraduate applicants that are scheduled to run through the spring.

Student Recruitment Services also run weekly campus tours to ensure that all prospective students get a chance to come onto campus.
