Blogging for International Migrants Day

Sussex academics blogged and tweeted during International Migrants Day on Wednesday (18 December) to highlight the work of Sussex’s two world-renowned research centres in the field of migration.

Researchers working in the two centres updated a dedicated web page, blogged, linked to press articles and tweeted about their work in Africa and Asia to showcase its relevance to the experiences of migrants around the world.

International Migrants Day was first established in 2000 by the UN General Assembly, taking into account the large and increasing number of migrants in the world.

The total number of international migrants has increased from an estimated 175 million in 2000 to 232 million persons today and the number of internal migrants is estimated to be at least 740 million.
