Grant funding to promote wellbeing at work

Sussexsport has been awarded grant funding to promote staff-only yoga- and tai chi-based sessions to help support those with stress and musculoskeletal disorders.

The grant of £500 – awarded by Active Sussex Brighton & Hove’s Healthy City Partnership - will be used to subsidise a rolling six-week programme of courses starting in January 2012.

The fund’s aim is to gives businesses and organisations throughout Sussex, such as the University, the opportunity to trial programmes that improve the health and wellbeing of their staff.

The grant was awarded on evidence collected from the 2010-11 active staff survey that clearly showed a need for some staff-only sessions.

Karen Creffield, Head of Sport, said: “We are delighted to receive the award. We focused our application on the feedback from our staff active survey and also on feedback from Occupational Health and Staff Welfare who felt there was a clear need for the introduction of some staff-only sessions that focus on addressing some of the key issues in supporting those with signs of stress and musculoskeletal disorders.

“Classes have been deliberately scheduled outside the traditional sporting environment, and will provide gentle exercise that can be carried out in everyday comfortable clothing at times to suit staff.”
