Arts Road closed this weekend

Arts Road will be closed this weekend because of essential construction works that require a crane to be located on it.

As a result, from 5pm on Saturday (19 November) until 5pm on Sunday (20 November) there will be no access to Arts Road from the junction of Refectory Road.

During this period there will be no through route for vehicles either to or from car parking spaces located at Arts, Jubilee, IDS and all disabled spaces leading to the Library. More info.

Staff Christmas party on 6 December

The Vice-Chancellor, Adam Tickell, invites all University staff to join him for some Christmas music, carol-singing and complimentary drinks and light refreshments. Book now for the Staff Christmas Party at the Attenborough Centre on Tuesday 6 December 2016 from 5.00 pm - 7.00 pm. Please book your place now - spaces are limited

Join the VC and meet new colleagues in the Attenborough Centre on 22 November

The VC is holding a social event for staff in the Attenborough Centre on 22 November from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm.

The informal event is an opportunity for the VC to get to know more staff from across the University while allowing staff working in schools and professional services to come together – in the newly refurbished, Grade II* listed ACCA.

Staff are invited to book a place for either event as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Spaces are limited to 50 people and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. More information.

Sussex marks World Kindness Day (13 November)

Staff, students and visitors gathered in the Attenborough Centre for the Kindness UK Symposium on 10 November to hear presentations by three Sussex PhD candidates on very different aspects of kindness - from how to measure and define compassion, to how far “cuteness” equates with kindness, to whether it’s self-interest, or genuine generosity, that leads governments to welcome asylum seekers.

Among attendees were winners of the inaugural Kindness UK Doctoral Conference Award jointly funded by Kindness UK, a not-for-profit organisation founded by David Jamilly, whose mission it is to raise awareness of the need for kindness and compassion. More info.
