National Student Survey goes live

On Monday (25 January), the 2016 National Student Survey (NSS) launched for all Sussex undergraduate students graduating from a degree this year.

NSS2016The survey, run on behalf of the UK government, asks final-year undergraduate students across the UK to rate their university experience. It is conducted by the external polling company Ipsos-MORI.

We want students to think back to their entire degree, not just the past few months.

By giving a few minutes, Sussex finalists help to inform students who plan to enter university about the quality of their course (and Sussex) and help them to decide what and where to study.

However, for Sussex staff, the following pointers may be useful for encouraging students to complete the NSS:

  • Speak to students about the survey at an early stage
  • Keep students and staff in your department up-to-date with the latest response rates
  • Involve all staff – academic and non-academic – in the process of promoting the NSS
  • Engage student reps and student societies within your academic area
  • Encourage students to respond, but not how to respond

If students take part in the survey, they can claim a free £5 lunch voucher to spend in Sussex Food or Students Union outlets on campus, and £5 print credit. You can also help to win their School up to £2000 to help improve social spaces for students.

A record 2,196 final-year Sussex finalists - around 73% of those who were eligible - took part in the 2015 survey. The 2015 NSS results were published in August 2015.

Sussex’s own site, giving information on the NSS specific to Sussex students. It also contains the link to the survey.

The 2016 survey is running at Sussex from 25 January until the end of April.
