Information days to share details about new student village on campus

Following last year’s approval of the University’s campus masterplan, a series of information days are being held next week to share details of a new student village that will be developed on campus.

East SlopeThe new accommodation will replace the current East Slope residences and will significantly increase the number of student bedrooms available on campus.

These plans form part of the University’s wider £500 million programme of investment to modernise and improve campus, providing the best facilities for Sussex students, researchers, academic and professional staff as well as the local community.

The new buildings have been designed so that they respect and enhance the vision of the campus’ founding architect, Sir Basil Spence.

Maintaining the features of the campus’ unique landscape setting is also at the heart of the East Slope redevelopment.

Plans for the student village include:

  • 2,100 student bedrooms to replace 590 old units in East Slope dating back to the 1970s
  • a mixture of town houses and flats
  • secure cycle parking for every resident
  • a new Students’ Union building

If you would like to see details of the designs, pop in to the ground floor of the campus Library on Tuesday 8 or Wednesday 9 March. Staff will be on hand during normal office hours to answer any questions.

In addition, on both days from 12noon-3pm you will be able to chat to University staff who are involved in the redevelopment as well as architects and representatives from the scheme’s contractor, Balfour Beatty.

If you would find it more convenient to attend an information session in Brighton, there are two locations:
