Autolocking of staff PCs being rolled out across campus

A change to set staff computers to lock automatically will be introduced to PCs in the Academic Registry from Monday (27 April).

TA graphic showing a computer with a picture of a padlock on the screenhe measure, which is common practice in universities and other organisations, is being introduced to staff computers during 2015, starting with parts of Professional Services.

The setting causes the screen to lock if a computer is inactive for more than ten minutes. Users remain logged in to their PCs and any programs that are running continue to work in the background. Staff simply need to re-enter their password to unlock the screen.

The autolocking will improve the security of the University's systems and data and has already been rolled out to IT Services and Student Recruitment Services.

Contact ITS if you have any questions about the new measures, or if you notice any problems as a result of the update to your PC.
