VC sows WW1 poppies on campus
Poppies have been planted on campus to mark the 100th anniversary this summer of the start of the First World War.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Michael Farthing, scattered poppy seeds in a patch outside the Arts Piazza café yesterday (Thursday 22 May).
Three varieties of poppy were planted: the Oriental Poppy, the Iceland Poppy and Papaver Rhoeas, which is the familiar red flower that has become a symbol of remembrance.
The planting was organised by Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF), who manage the University’s grounds.
