Sussex women’s team Ultimate Frisbee champions for third year
The University’s Ultimate Frisbee women’s team are national champions for the third consecutive year after their triumph at the weekend (20 and 21 April).

The Sussex team – called Squaws – beat Edinburgh University in the final of the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Outdoor National Championships in Nottingham to retain the title that they have held since 2011.
The open (men’s) team, Mohawks, also began the weekend as reigning champions and top seeds but eventually finished fifth.
The Mohawks second team finished 16th and the Squaws second team finished 18th.
Sussex was the first university in the history of the competition to have had two open teams qualify for the national finals.
Ultimate Frisbee is one of two ‘focus sports’ at the University this academic year. The ‘focus sport’ project – currently in its pilot year – identifies and supports student clubs that have consistently performed at the highest level within BUCS competitions and national-level events. Specifically, it offers our highest performing teams annual funding for extra coaching sessions, access to facilities, entry to elite tournaments and fitness support.
The other ‘focus sport’ for 2012-13 is fencing.
