Global agenda for social work at Sussex
On Monday (26 March), the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) presented the objectives of its Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development to the United Nations.

“We commit wholeheartedly and urgently to people having power over their own lives to address the root cause of oppression and inequality, to work together with others to create a more socially-just and fair world,” said the IFSW.
Stimulated by the urgency of this agenda, social work staff and students at the University of Sussex have set themselves the task of internationalising their teaching and research.
In February, Professor Imogen Taylor visited the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in India to join them in celebrating their platinum jubilee at a conference on 'Globalisation and social transformation: The Indian experience'.
Sussex is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and TISS and Sussex had a joint celebration in Mumbai.
Professor Taylor said: “We have followed up the visit by working closely with the TISS staff to develop masters and doctoral-level collaborations, as it is at these levels that we learn how to effectively engage with diversity and difference and work through how best to exchange knowledge and understanding.”
