EPSRC ADVANCED MAGNETICS: 4th call for proposals. Closing date: 17 March.

ESRC SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS linked to the ESRC Risk and Human Behaviour Research Programme. Applications invited from researchers with a demonstrable ability to contribute to a better understanding of the ways in which individuals, organisations and societies handle issues where risk and uncertainty are an important consideration. Closing date: 24 March .

ESRC FUEL CELLS PROGRAMME: call for proposals for a programme on fuel cells for clean power generation and transport. Closing date: 4 April .

THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES FOOD MANUFACTURING LINK: MAFF is inviting proposals for support within the LINK advanced and hygienic food manufacturing programme. No closing date.

THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH VARIATIONS IN HEALTH STATUS: proposals invited with a focus on the evaluation of existing and innovative interventions in the health sphere aimed at reducing gender, ethnic socio-economic and geographical variations in health. No closing date.

NHS NATIONAL R&D PROGRAMMES: call for proposals on: NHS R&D Programme to evaluate methods to promote the implementation of research findings; Department of Health research programme to evaluate supervised aftercare under the Mental Health Act 1995 and guardianship under the Mental Health Act 1983. Closing date: 4 April.

EPSRC APPLIED NONLINEAR MATHEMATICS PROGRAMME: to provide support for genuinely interdisciplinary and collaborative research. Closing date: 11 April.

TEACHER TRAINING AGENCY INVITATION TO TENDER: to carry out research which will help teachers to extend and enhance their teaching by increasing their capacity to make informed choices about when and how to use Information and Communications Technology to improve teaching and learning. Closing date: 21 April 1997.

SRHE SMALL GRANTS - YOUNGER RESEARCHER AWARD: to enable the researcher to develop competences to advance her/his research career; to undertake a study that will prepare the ground for a larger project. Closing date: 25 April 1997.

UK/FRANCE JOINT RESEARCH PROGRAMME - ALLIANCE: to promote the development of Franco-British scientific co-operation between universities and public sector research institutes in France and the UK. Closing date: 1 May 1997.

UK/AUSTRIA RESEARCH COLLABORATION: applications invited to develop Austro-British research projects in the fields of the environment, biotechnology, communications, and transport engineering; and medical and information technology. Deadlines for visits before December 1997: May 1997 and Deadline for visits before June 1998: November 1997.
