The images looks eastwards from west of Saltdean towards Telscombe Tye. This photo is older than the on on the Saltdean page because the large house on Telscombe Tye is still missing. It probably dates from the 1920s. |

The present day image shows a highly engineered coastline. Whereas the beach width at high tide was probably 10m at the most at Saltdean, it is now ~35m plus the wide undercliff promenade. Note that today there is no beach in front of the seawall behind the bloulder groyne and that the beach agains the Portobello sewage outfall groyne in the background seems to be much larger. |
