Khalid al-Qasri said:  We all, people of Syria and our brothers from Egypt and Iraq, made military expeditions and each was required to bring from the country of Rum one qafiz [an ancient arab pound weight whose value varied over the centuries] of small mosaics and (a plaque) of marble of one cubit.  Those of Iraq and Aleppo carried them to Aleppo where the transport was paid to Damascus.  Lastly, those from Damascus and (the countries that occurred) beyond (that is to say south of Damascus) brought them up to Damascus.
