Description of mosaic in text: The Caliph al-Walid used to transport mosaics from Constantinople to Damascus, that is to say the cubes of gold glass, destined to line the walls of the Great Mosque in Damascus,  to Mecca, to Medina and to Jerusalem; there remains today only remnants in Damascus and Mecca …and remains at Qubbat as-Sakha; all the rest have disappeared.
