SSRP Symposium 2025: Synergy Drivers for Accelerating Action on the SDGs
The Sussex Sustainability Research Programme (SSRP) is hosting its Annual Symposium on Sustainability Research on Wednesday, 26 November 2025 in Room 221 at IDS from 09:30 to 13:00. Refreshments and lunch will be served.
This year’s theme, ‘Synergy Drivers for Accelerating Action on the SDGs’, will showcase recent SSRP research and policy engagement efforts to identify innovative policies and measures that can help achieve multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals while minimising trade-offs.
The event is convened by SSRP Director Joseph Alcamo and Deputy Director John Thompson. It will open with an overview of the Synergy Drivers approach and highlights from a recent report commissioned by UK FCDO which was launched at a Side Event of the UN General Assembly at UN Headquarters in July 2025.
Researchers from across Sussex and IDS will then give quick-fire 5-minute presentations on their recent and ongoing research in three sessions based on SSRP research themes:
- Session One: Ecosystems, Rights and Justice
- Session Two: Sustainability Frontiers and South Coast Sustainability
- Session Three: Sustainable Climate and Food Systems
Each session will end with a 10-minute Q&A panel discussion to which the audience are invited to contribute.
The Symposium will close with a plenary discussion of the new Sussex School for Progressive Futures and the ‘Environmental Sustainability’ pillar of the University’s Strategy 2035. This session will explore opportunities for SSRP, in its role as the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Research at Sussex, to contribute to advancing the new SSPF and Strategy 2035 agenda.
A programme with details on all sessions will be circulated shortly.
