Sustaining the power of creativity: stories meeting young people and young people meeting stories.

This exciting event forms part of two community festivals in the School of Education and Social Work, recognising and celebrating the work of diverse authors, artists and musicians
Staff and students are warmly invited to a free research workshop conducted by Farrah Serroukh, (Research and Development Director at the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education) and the author of award-winning research focused on ethnic representation in children's literature. Farrah will be joined by children's author *Sita Brahmachari, who will share her authorial insights of working with different communities to create authentic stories which reflect themes of culture identity and belonging.
The event will be curated in a storytelling format that offers participants not only new rational understandings but new affective experiences of how knowledge is shared within and across cultures. Throughout the day, participants will be given the opportunity to explore the power and impact of sustained creativity through engagement with interactive artistic and literary experiences as well as learning from leading experts in the field.
*Sita has written for readers from age 4-18. Her stories have been made 'Books on Prescription' by 'The Reading Agency' and are celebrated for contributing to the wellbeing of young people. Please bring along your copies of her books which she will be happy to sign. www.sitabrahmachari.com
