Widening Access to Biomedical Technology in the Global South
Join us for presentations and a lively panel discussion from our leading researchers at Sussex Neuroscience.
Biomedical science is under rapid technological change, but access to cutting-edge resources for research and healthcare can be very problematic in the lower and middle-income countries where most of the world’s population lives. But there is a parallel movement towards widening the availability of healthcare technologies, enabled by key advances in cheap consumer electronics, rapid prototyping, and new approaches to processing data. This could lead to free exchange of open-source resources and ultimately a step change in local testing, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Colleagues working in different centres at Sussex – Sussex Neuroscience, the Clinical Imaging Sciences Centre, Global Health or SPRU – will unite at this session to bring complementary perspectives on this phenomenon and initiate a stimulating discussion.
