A Sussex Law School graduate has earned himself a place in the next round of ITV's The Voice after appearing on the show at the weekend.
Law graduate Oke Omoniyi – or Ox, as he is also known – is part of the duo Ant & Ox, who appeared on The Voice on 20 January, where they sang Maroon 5’s ‘Sunday Morning’ in a bid to impress the judges.
Their performance was well received, with three of the four judges – Tom Jones, Jennifer Hudson and Olly Murs – hitting their button to indicate they would like to work with them.
After consideration, the pair opted to work with former American Idol contestant, Jennifer Hudson, who will support them in the next stage of the competition.
Ant & Ox first met as students at the University of Sussex, where they started out by making music in their halls of residence, and today describe themselves as “partners in crime”.
Although both had nurtured an interest in music from a young age – Ant was inspired by School of Rock to pick up a guitar and Oke sang in a church choir – it wasn’t until their second year at Sussex that they began to take their pastime more seriously and established a musical partnership.
Since graduating, the duo have toured around London and Brighton, and even revisited campus in November when they performed at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
If you can’t wait for the next stage of the competition, you can find Ant & Ox on Facebook, YouTube and Spotify.
