Network Replacement Programme (NRP) – what to expect in the Spring term

As the Spring term gets underway in earnest, work to put in place our brand-new, campus-wide internet network is continuing around the campus.
The new network, installed via our Network Replacement Programme (NRP), will be faster, more reliable, more secure and help to reduce our carbon footprint, as well as providing an expected boost to staff and student satisfaction.
Survey works
Low-impact surveys inside buildings are continuing to take place around the campus to prepare for the installation of new fibre optic cables and equipment. This work will continue in phases.
The project team will continue to provide plenty of notice before each survey takes place as well as providing information on how the work will affect building users.
External works
External work is also still taking place around the campus with temporary traffic lights and access restrictions both in place and planned to allow more trenching and ducting work to take place. This work will allow the running of cables around the campus, to connect our network ‘cores’ and allow us to link each building on campus to the new network.
Roadworks recently took place outside Freeman and in P1 Science car park, including minor disruption at the rear entrance of the Sussex Innovation Centre.
We are also undertaking work elsewhere on campus to get new cabling prepared and installed:
- Works which started at the end of January are taking place outside Lewes Court, around blocks 3 and 4, with minor impact to pathways.
- The main footpath outside Eat Central at Bramber House will be closed during the Easter period.
- Cabling works will be taking place around the Meeting House from mid-February to mid-March, primarily taking place on the grassed areas, with low impact to the area.
Drawing on experience of past similar works in these areas and in line with our approach for the whole programme, the team will work hard to ensure each work site is returned to its former state as quickly as possible after the works are completed.
