Guest lecturing at Black at Sussex - Clive Myrie
As part of our five-year commitment to improve the representation, wellbeing, and success of Black students and staff, we are creating spaces for Black knowledge, leadership, and lived experience to be centred in the curriculum and wider university life. We are seeking Black guest lecturers across disciplines who can speak to their academic, professional, creative or community work and inspire our university community through thought-provoking and transformative dialogue.
Why We're Doing This
Black at Sussex was created to directly address the underrepresentation and marginalisation of Black voices in higher education. We are committed to amplifying Black scholarship in ways that honour the histories and lived realities of our communities, and contribute meaningfully to a more equitable university.

As part of this, we recognise the unique value of hearing directly from Black lecturers, researchers, professionals, artists, and community leaders – whether they’re alumni, local experts, or voices from across the UK and beyond.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome proposals or expressions of interest from Black individuals (of African and/or Caribbean heritage and diaspora) interested in delivering:
-
One-off lectures, seminars, or workshops
-
Guest talks as part of existing modules
-
Public lectures or interdisciplinary discussions
How to Get Involved
If you are a Black academic, artist, professional or practitioner and would like to be involved as a guest lecturer at Sussex, please reach out to us using the application form and guidance to tailor your proposal.
We are also reaching out to our incredible Black alumni network, so if you’re a Sussex graduate and want to reconnect with the university in this way, we especially want to hear from you.
Together, we’re building a university where Black excellence isn’t just recognised – it’s centred.
