Students and staff from the University of Sussex Business School celebrated the beginning of the 2018/19 academic year with a Welcome Evening on 27 September, featuring an insightful talk from Jacqueline O’Reilly, Professor of Comparative Human Resource Management.
New students, as well as those returning from the summer break, joined academic and Professional Services staff to get a feel for the School community.
The evening began with students finding out about support and activities available across the University, with exhibitors including the Careers and Employability Centre, Alumni Relations, Sussex Centre for Language Studies, Study Abroad and the School's own Business Liaison and Placements team.
Everyone gathered in the Jubilee lecture theatre to hear a talk entitled 'Future of Work' by guest speaker, Jacqueline O'Reilly, who is Professor of Comparative Human Resource Management as well as the Business School's Equalities and Diversity Officer.
Jacqueline is author of "Working in the Digital Age" and "Youth Employment", with her research expertise including areas such as gender, employment and ethnicity.
We were also joined by recent Business School Graduate Lizzie Epton, who discussed her own experiences of University and the effect that getting involved in opportunities had on her time here. She mentioned her work with the Enactus Society, which eventually led to her being offered a job once she graduated.
Buffet style food, cakes and drink was provided by the Students’ Union.
