Abstract:
The global energy transition unfolds unevenly, perpetuating injustices rooted in capitalism, neoliberalism, and extractivism. Frameworks such as Just Energy Transitions and Energy Justice often reflect Global North perspectives, sidelining Global South realities. This paper applies the Ecosocial Energy Transition (EET) framework in Chile and the UK, using reflexive thematic analysis, narrative review, and empirical data. The EET addresses gaps by emphasising care for natural resources, critiquing capitalist and patriarchal systems, and challenging colonial legacies. Five core principles, Transformation, Reparation, Decentralisation, Democratic Autonomy, and Feminine Perspective, advance holistic, justice-centred approaches that amplify Global South voices and promote equitable, context-sensitive energy transitions.
