About the department

We are a young and dynamic department with strong industry links, expert staff who consult for leaders in business and government, and state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities.

We offer a diverse range of cutting-edge degrees that prepare students for careers in established and emerging areas of finance and accounting, such as FinTech, banking, financial and management accounting and risk management.

We apply our research to inform teaching and assessment at all levels, with strong links with professional bodies such as the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute, the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), and all six UK professional accountancy bodies: ACCA, CAI, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW, and ICAS. The department has a strong research culture and provides an ideal environment for academics to develop into world-leading scholars and researchers. Our goal is to tackle practical research questions that are relevant for society and our staff have practical working experience with investment banks, rating agencies, hedge-funds, big four accounting organisations, and charities.

Our members of staff have been published in high-level research journals such as: MIS Quarterly, Accounting, Organisations and Society, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Corporate Finance. They play a leading role in the global community through editorial positions with major journals, such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, and as advisors to both industry and governments.
