Posted on behalf of: EDI Unit
Last updated: Friday, 14 July 2023
This year marks 10 years of Trans Pride in Brighton. Trans Pride Brighton is the longest-running Trans Pride event in the UK, and is a grass-roots, community-led organisation run by a team of volunteers.
“Our aim is to inspire all trans, intersex, gender variant and queer people to help make a real difference by celebrating trans lives and gender diversity. We aim to educate and eliminate discrimination by promoting equality and diversity through visibility, while also celebrating our unique history.”
Trans Pride events taking place this weekend (14-16 July) in Brighton include the Trans Pride Protest March, Park Celebration and After Party. Follow the link to find out more. What’s on: Trans Pride.
In addition to running the annual Trans Pride march and park event, the Trans Pride Centre also provides a social and support hub all year-round, including a community centre and drop-in and a range of support services for Trans and Non-binary people.
Celebrating Trans Pride at Sussex
Yesterday (Tuesday 11 July) the LGBTQ+ Staff Network and the Trans and Non-Binary Staff Network invited staff to mark the upcoming Trans Pride with a creative showcase featuring art, poetry and live performance from Trans and Non-Binary staff at the University. Over the weekend, the Trans Flag will fly over Sussex House.
As part of the Trans Pride at Sussex event, Sussex member of staff Atusa Jasmin, who works in the School of Psychology, shared their experiences as a performer and host of community events and projects.
Atusa has organised a pop-up after-party event to celebrate Trans Pride this Saturday, which is a night to celebrate the Trans and Non-Binary communities in Brighton. You can find tickets and further information here.
They are a founder of the queer POC show and dance party Aziz. To support the project and find out more about upcoming events visit AZIZ!™️ (@azizpocevents) • Instagram photos and videos
