Care Leavers Award for Students Starting in 2018 (2018)

£3,000 paid to all eligible students, with a further £2,000 for some care leavers on their Year Abroad. An Exit award of £1,000 will also be paid to students once they have finished their degree successfully.

What you get

The award will be paid in three instalments per year, £1,000 per term in September, January and March. Students in their first year of study will receive an additional £500 in the first term.

Year Abroad

If you choose to study abroad for a year as part of your course and your household income is assessed by the Student Loans Company as being £42,875 or below, you will receive £2,000 in addition to your Care Leaver Award. This will be paid to you in two £1,000 instalments in September and March.


Exit Award

Once you have completed your degree and the result has been published a £1,000 exit award will be made.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the award you need to:

  • have been in care for at least 13 weeks since your 14th birthday
  • be under 25 when you start the course
  • have ticked the 'in care' box on your UCAS form

How to apply

The University's Care Leaver Coordinator will contact you with a short questionnaire you need to return to enable us to check your eligibility for the award.

If you are eligible the award will be paid automatically and you will not need to apply.
