The Margaret Boden Informatics PhD Scholarship (2019)

The School of Engineering and Informatics invites outstanding applicants for to apply for the 2019 prestigious Margaret Boden Informatics PhD Scholarship in the Department of Informatics.

What you get

£15,009 stipend, plus full fees.

You will receive a tax free stipend at a standard rate of £15,009 per year for three years. In addition, your fees will be waived for three years (at the UK, EU, or International rate).

This annual scholarship is offered in recognition of Professor Margaret Boden OBE. Professor Boden is one of the founders of cognitive science, a renowned philosopher and scientist, who for decades has been a key figure in the intellectual history of Sussex University and the Department of Informatics.

The Margaret Boden scholarship will cover living expenses and academic fees for candidates from UK/EU countries and from non-EU countries.

We invite applicants to propose their own research projects that closely align with work in one or more of the research groups in the Department, and/or with one of the research centres prominently represented within the Department.

  • Creative Technology

The research centres:

  • Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Robotics (CCNR)
  • Centre for Research in Cognitive Science (COGS)
  • Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science (SCCS)
  • Sussex Neuroscience
  • Sussex Humanities Lab

Candidates are encouraged to identify and contact faculty members in the Department suitable to supervise their project, prior to submitting their application.

While we particularly welcome proposals that build on Professor Boden’s legacy in cognitive science, when making funding decisions we will give equal consideration to proposals across the entire range of research within the Department.
