Spring teaching

This module builds on the first year literacy module (Exploring Children’s Communication, Language and Literacy.

You’ll build upon foundational theories, practical approaches and exposure to practical experiences in the classroom, with a stronger focus on writing.

You’ll explore how a skilled practitioner can interact and support language and literacy development. You’ll understand the importance of play, an enabling environment and rich storytelling opportunities.

You’ll look at how we teach writing and aim to build life-long writers.

You will be expected to reflect on exposure to learning in the classroom and consider the potential application of established pedagogies and emerging innovations, as well as critique and contextualise policy and practice.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
