Rewriting the Canon (W3096)

This module develops your abilities to perform close readings of musical set works through creative methods in analysis and composition. You will increase their knowledge and critical understanding of composition methods, forms and styles and relate these to relevant repertoires. You will do this by learning and practising a range of analytical and compositional methods.
This module builds on foundation music modules from Year 1, provides practical skills to accompany and inform Year 2 core modules 'The Rise of Classical Music' and 'History of the Modern', and prepares you for advanced modules in musical theory and practice in Year 3.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 24 hours of contact time and about 126 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
This module is running in the academic year 2021/22. We also plan to offer it in future academic years. However, we are constantly looking to improve and enhance our courses.
