Mathematical Methods for Physics 3 (F3205)

This module teaches mathematical techniques that are of use in physics, in particular relating to the solution of differential equations. It also aims to give experience of mathematical modelling of physical problems. The module includes:
- Fourier series
- Ordinary differential equations
- Some linear algebra
- Fourier and Laplace transform
- Series solutions of differential equations
- Partial differential equations.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 106 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
