Autumn teaching

This is a post-beginner stage for if you have basic prior knowledge of the target language (TL).

Building on existing levels of proficiency at A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages, you can:

  • develop practical applied competence in the four TL skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing
  • consolidate and develop a range of standard lexical, phonetic and grammatical principles to allow rapid progression in the TL
  • encourage autonomous use of the TL
  • develop contextualised cultural knowledge and awareness through study of authentic TL materials in a range of text, digital and audio-visual media.

This module is at B1 – B2 on the CEFR for Languages.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 106 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2019/20. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
