Technical Theatre, Production Design & Stage Management (Q3316)

15 credits, Level 4

Autumn teaching

The module introduces you to the practical elements of technical theatre, production design and stage management in order to give them an understanding of how all these elements integrate within the performance process. The module will introduce you to the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts' technical facilities (lighting, sound and AV equipment), concepts of design (including lighting, sound and set), the role of stage management, and how all of these elements combine within professional theatre practice. You will engage with different performance spaces, learn how they influence the decisions you may make with respect to preparing a space for performance.

You will gain skills and knowledge of practical and design issues, not necessarily to master the topics, but rather to be conscious of and conversant with them. The Technical Theatre module aims to equip you with the requisite approaches to performance that will allow you to engage as fully as possible with all the demands of the Drama, Theatre and Performance course.
