Teaching English for Specific Purposes (013X5)

15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring teaching

The aim of the module is to enable you to develop knowledge and critical understanding of current theories and research in Teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP), including Academic contexts and Young Learners. The teaching and assessment will enable students to reflect upon ways in which ESP differs from General English, how teaching younger language learners differs from adults, and analyse how these manifest themselves in classroom practice, materials and assessment. The module is assessed through a portfolio, which will allow you to explore a specific aspect of pedagogy or educational context in more depth, and consider applications to their own professional development as teachers.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2023/24. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
