Global Englishes (011X5)

15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Spring teaching

The module aims to address some of the current and significant issues concerning the growth and use of English around the world, the implications for pedagogy and teacher education. The increasingly international profile of the language, its learners and teaching contexts is reflected in the breadth of nationalities of students on the ELT course, studying, researching and working in this complex field. This area of English language teaching is attracting growing academic attention in terms of journal, book and conference publications, and raises challenging questions for both researchers and practitioners.

Teaching and assessment

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 18 hours of contact time and about 282 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We’re planning to run this module in the academic year 2020/21. However, there may be changes to this module in response to COVID-19, or due to staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum. It may not be possible to take some module combinations due to timetabling constraints. We’ll make sure to let our applicants know of material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
