PhD project

The project

Large N limits of gauge theories  were introduced in the 80' as a new tool to study of the standard model, which remains one of the best model  for the fundamental interactions of elementary particles.  Though, as of today, most of these models are mathematically ill-defined,  which prevents a further understanding of their fundamental properties or even questions the validity of their use.

Many technics  needed to study rigorously the above large N limits have now been deeply investigated in the setting of Random Matrix Theory and Free Probability.  Moreover, in the last decades and very recently, new ways to define some of these models have been introduced in probability, based on stochastic calculus, lattice models or regularity structures. The project aims at studying some of these in the large N limit regime, in two or three dimension.

The project seats at the crossroad of theoretical probability, combinatorics and geometry. It is suitable for a student with interest in one or several of these topics. The student will work under the supervision of Dr Antoine Dahlqvist and join the probability group, which is a very active part of the Mathematics department at the University of Sussex.
