Academic Costs Hardship Fund

As part of your application to the Hardship Fund, we may refer you to the Students' Union who offer some financial support specifically for Academic Costs. The Students' Union will only accept applications from students who have been referred via the Hardship Process.

The purpose of the fund is to help students to cover any academic costs that students cannot cover themselves. For example:

  • Printing costs
  • Course packs
  • Course texts and textbooks
  • Stationery
  • Technical Equipment
  • Field Trips (including travel to/from)
  • Travel to placements
  • DBS Checks if required for your course
  • Lab Coats, Scrubs, Clothing or Uniform
  • Conference registration (including travel to/from)
  • Thesis/Dissertation Binding
  • Visa costs (if travelling abroad for academic trip)
  • Other academic costs not listed above

Please note that the fund cannot cover tuition fees. Students can only apply for up to £100 from the fund.

The Students' Union will contact any student who is referred directly and request that they fill out a short form and supply evidence of the costs incurred. The final decison on whether an award is made will be decided by the Students' Union.
