The panellists discuss the media coverage of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities and ways in which the representations of these diverse communities can be improved. How can media practitioners fight against racist and stereotypical coverage? What is the responsibility of media organizations towards these groups? And how can tutors and researchers at the University of Sussex aid this effort?
The panellists include Jake Bowers (Romani documentary film maker and journalist), Roberta Piazza (Reader in English Language and Linguistics, University of Sussex), Jim Alexander (Gypsy and Traveller Team, Communities, East Sussex County Council), Terry Green (Volunteer with Friends, Families and Travellers) and Rachael Duncan (Senior lecturer in Journalism, University of Sussex).
