A member of the Centre for Research in Cognitive Science (COGS) recently gave Brighton pupils a taste of research in cognitive systems - but he wasn’t alone.
Accompanying cognitive science tutor Simon Bowes on his visit to Elm Grove Primary School last month was one of the robotic dogs from the PAICS Lab (Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science), a research lab within the Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems research group in the School of Informatics.
As part of their 'Iron Man' theme, through which they were investigating artificial life, year three pupils at Elm Grove Primary prepared questions for Simon, who explained the differences between mechanical toys and autonomous robots.
The robotic dog demonstrated its abilities by picking up its bone, by responding to the children and by dancing.
