Biography

Dr. Grammatiki Lioliou is currently a Research Fellow in Radiation Detection and Instrumentation, at the Space Research Group in the School of Engineering and Informatics, University of Sussex, UK. She is appointed on a fixed term STFC funded contract since the completion of her PhD thesis. Dr. Lioliou obtained her PhD (minor corrections) in 2017 at the Space Research Group. Her PhD thesis is entitled “Wide bandgap semiconductor radiation detectors for extreme environments”. Dr. Lioliou received her MSc degree in Satellite Communications and Space Systems (2013) from University of Sussex, UK, and her BSc degree in Physics (2012) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Dr. Lioliou’s research interests lie in the field of wide bandgap semiconductor detector systems (SiC, III-V, and Diamond) for high energy resolution X-ray, γ-ray, and electron spectroscopy in extreme environments (high temperature and intense radiation), as well as associated ultra low noise electronics. Her research work in fundamental semiconductor device characterization and detector physics has significantly advanced understanding in semiconductor materials science with regard to radiation detectors and their future use in extreme environments (for space science and extreme terrestrial environments) as well as for conversion materials in nuclear microbatteries.

Dr. Lioliou’s research track record is fast-growing since she joined Sussex; she is an author of 35 peer-reviewed journal articles.  She has given research talks on “X-ray Fluorescence of Unknown Material in Drinking Water” (University of Sussex) and “Photon counting X-ray spectroscopy (4.95 keV to 21.17 keV) with AlInP” (UK Semiconductors Conference, University of Sheffield).  During her PhD, she was awarded the Best PGR poster in Postgraduate Poster Presentation, 2015, University of Sussex.
