Inclusive Sussex: In Conversation event, featuring Professor Tom Shakespeare CBE FBA.
Tom Shakespeare is Professor of Disability Research at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Author of Disability Rights and Wrongs, among a dozen books and hundred papers, he contributed to the WHO World Report on Disability, and has worked at Universities of Sunderland, Leeds, Newcastle and UEA as well as LSHTM. He has been involved in the disability rights movement for more than 25 years, and is active as a writer and broadcaster.
Prof. Shakespeare will be exploring the current picture of disability inclusion in the context of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
He will be joined by a panel of Sussex staff to talk about the next steps in disability, liberation and equality. The panel includes:
- Professor David Ruebain - Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Culture, Equality and Inclusion
- Dr Hadir Elshafay - Lecturer, School of Law, Politics and Sociology
- Dr Hannah Mason-Bish - Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Criminology, School of Law, Politics and Sociology
