Advanced Synthetic Methods (855C1)

This module explores the latest advances in Organic Synthesis. It is based on recent findings in the subject, combining lectures with workshops, research talks, directed and independent reading and a critical work. Lectures will deal with strategy in advanced organic synthesis and the use of new organometallic reagents and catalysts for the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds, with a focus on the mechanisms involved in key chemical transformations and the limits of current capability. Workshops will provide a discussion forum for problem-solving activities and analysis using targets of biological and industrial interest.

This module is 150 hours of work. This breaks down into 25 hours of contact time and 125 hours of independent study.
