Click and Study

University of Sussex students and staff can now book a study space in the Library between 10.00am-4.00pm, Monday-Friday, with sessions available for the morning and afternoon. Study spaces should be booked at least 24 hours in advance through Library Search using the search terms study space or desks. These spaces can be booked up to two weeks in advance. The video below will show you how to book a space.

Study spaces can be booked for a morning session from 10.00am-12.30pm or an afternoon session from 1.30pm-4.00pm. Spaces can also be booked for a full day, 10.00am-4.00pm. All spaces will be unavailable between 12.30pm and 1.30pm for cleaning. It is essential when booking that you change the start time to 10:00am or 1:30pm and the finishing time 12:30pm or 4:00pm, even if you do not intend to stay for the full period.

You will be asked to show your booking confirmation on your Library account when entering the building. While in the building, face coverings are to be worn at all times unless exempt.

To make this service available as soon as possible we have used an existing platform, Library Search, in a new way. This means that the booking process is not currently as straightforward as we would hope but we will continue working to improve this. This is also why we have made a video to guide you through the process.

If you are booking a space, remember to also use the Click and Collect service in advance of your visit if you wish to read a particular book. Once you are working in the Library, should you require another book, you will be able to request this through the help desk. The book stacks will be closed so you will not be able to browse the shelves yourself. There will be no access to Library PCs or Chromebooks but you may bring your own laptop.

The study spaces are to be used for individual, quiet study and are positioned to create a socially distanced safe study environment. You will only be able to sit at the specific desk that you have booked and will not be able to move to another empty desk should one be free. Please remember to cancel your booking if it is no longer needed.

There are 30 study spaces available on the ground floor. Numbers 1-18 are to the right of the entrance and 19-30 to the left. Numbers 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30 are high desks, the remainder are lower desks. Study space 4 does not have access to mains power. To see where individual study spaces are located please download the Click and Study Floorplan [PDF 547.21KB].

While you are studying in the Library no food or drink can be consumed, except for bottled water. The cafe area will be open but not the cafe. There will be a toilet available but you will not be able to use the water fountains, vending machines, microwave, lockers, printers or copiers. Social distancing will be in place throughout.
