This issue is beyond Sussex - there is an outage with Amazon Web Services which is bringing down Canvas internationally, as well as many other services. There is nothing we can do at Sussex apart from monitor for updates.

Student facing communications are being considered, with the priority on ODL students.
UPDATE: 16 Jul 2026 - 12:25pm
Instructure report that Canvas is now available again in Europe, which means the service has been restored for for Sussex.

Canvas and our other impacted services are now accessible from our EU servers once again. Our team is monitoring this and working on restoring access to other regions as well.

The service was down July 16 from around 09:20 to 11:30, due to issues with Amazon Web Services.
This issue has been resolved and all Instructure products are working as intended.
