What's happening:
Instructure who maintain Canvas are upgrading thier database infrastructure as part of an initiative to modernize our systems and complete large-scale software versioning improvements. This work keeps thier technology current, high-performing, and aligned with the security and compliance standards their customers rely on.
When:
2026-07-08 at 02:00 am GMT. The estimated duration is about 30 minutes. In some cases, the window may run up to an hour, and they've planned for that.
Why outside the normal maintenance window:
This update spans nearly their entire environment and needs to be completed on an accelerated schedule. They can't fit all of it into the usual maintenance schedule, so they're restricting every upgrade to off-hour, lowest-usage windows, with work beginning between midnight and 2 a.m.
What to expect:
Canvas will be temporarily unavailable during the window described above. No action is required from ITS or users.
