Terms of reference
(1) Terms of Reference:
Key Role: The Departmental Research Committees will support the Head of Department and/or the Departmental Research Lead in formulating and implementing the Departmental Research Strategy, promote a strong research and knowledge exchange culture and ethos across the Department, review the progress of the department, groups and individuals in the context of both the Departmental and School Research Strategies and develop activities that enhance research. Specifically:
(a) to agree the Departmental Research Strategy for approval by the School Research Committee;
(b) to monitor Departmental progress against the parameters set out by the School Research Committee;
(c) to regularly receive and feedback upon individual research plans;
(d) to manage the Department’s engagement with key funding initiatives;
(e) to promote and exchange best practice in relation to the enhancement and management and conduct of research and knowledge exchange activities;
(f) to offer researchers opportunities for peer reviewing selected articles, book proposals, and grant applications;
(g) to maintain and disseminate information about the leading journals in the discipline;
(h) to support researchers, including early career researchers, in identifying research priorities.
(2) Composition:
- Head of Department or Departmental Research Lead (Chair);
- A representative cross-section of staff from the Department, this encompassing the range of research groups / themes / activities pursued by individuals and a range of experience.
(3) Reports to:
School Research Committee, via Chair.
