The Sussex Centre for Migration Research (SCMR) is pleased to announce the launch of websites for two action research projects funded by UK Research and Innovation through the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).
Protracted Displacement Economies (PDE) aims to improve understanding of how displacement economies operate and how they can be supported to really thrive. The long-term goal of the PDE project is to help realise the vast economic potential of displacement-affected communities around the world. For more information, see https://www.displacementeconomies.org.
Inclusive Urban Infrastructure (IUI) aims to improve understanding of how urban infrastructure is provided in the Global South and how the most marginalised can benefit from it. The long-term goal of the IUI project is to contribute to the inclusive provision of infrastructure to off-grid settlements in cities across Africa and Asia. For more information, see https://www.inclusiveinfrastructure.org.
Professor Michael Collyer, the projects’ Principal Investigator, said: “These projects will contribute to the ways in which we think about forced displacement and urban infrastructure. They build on a long history of research into migration and development at the University of Sussex, conducted in partnership with institutions around the world. We hope that the research will improve responses to displacement and urban poverty, crucially by recognising and amplifying the expertise of people who are directly affected.”
