Academic Lead and Disability Equality and Inclusion Steering Group

Our work on delivering disability equality and Inclusion is overseen by an academic lead and a Steering Group.

Academic Lead for Disability

In February 2021 the University appointed John Walker from the Sussex Centre for Language Studies as our academic lead on Disability. John was one of four academic leads appointed in January 2021 supporting delivery of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, Inclusive Sussex [PDF 152KB].

Disability Equality and Inclusion Steering Group (DEISG)

John established the Disability Equality and Inclusion Steering Group in March 2021 in collaboration with the Staff Disability Network. This collaboration ensures that disabled staff have a voice in the decisions made about how we support them. The relationship between the academic lead, the network and the steering group is vital to making sustainable changes that make a difference to disabled staff.
