Seeds of Elytrigia pontica (Podp). Holub = Thinopyron ponticum (Podp). Barwort et Dewey from collection NC47 (center;and south of the Province of Cordoba, Argentina) were assayed. The conditions of germination were: neutralized perlite, water, NaHCO3, gibberellin A(3) and KNO3. According to ISTA's rules (7), 21 days after the cariopses were sown, the following were measured: final germination count, root (radicle) length, shoot length, number of roots, number of leaves; the relationship root/shoot was calculated. In the treatment with perlite/sand as substratum and seeds with lemmas, significant differences occur in germination, root (radicle) length, shoot length, number of leaves and number of roots. The decreases observed in seeds without lemmas was 21% in germination, 17% in radicle length and 20% in shoot length. These differences could indicate regulation of gaseous exchange by the seedcoats. |
